Aquamarine Fukushima

An interactive aquarium themed on the sea that engages all five senses

The Ocean Museum in Fukushima is a facility that explores the wonders of the sea from a variety of perspectives, based on the theme of “tides,” a characteristic of the Pacific Ocean.

The facility also serves as a science museum and botanical garden, centered around an aquarium, to encourage people to think about “the future of people and the Earth.

Here, some 800 species of creatures are on display, including colorful tropical fish, seals, and sea lions, not to mention fish found in the surrounding seas.

Visitors can try their hand at fishing and even eat their catch on the spot. Visitors can also take a backyard tour to see behind the scenes of the aquarium, or go barefoot and interact with the creatures in one of the world’s largest touch pools.

In addition, there are plenty of events for children to enjoy. At Janome Beach, children can interact with the creatures with a twinkle in their eyes. Depending on the time of year, night tours are also offered, which are also very popular.

One of the highlights of the Ocean Museum is the giant triangular tunnel in the large aquarium. The sight of various fish swimming above your head makes you feel as if you are in the sea. It has become a popular spot with many families and couples.
