The Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art is located at the foot of Mt. Nobuyama is also known for its cherry blossoms, making it a relaxing place for local residents.
The museum exhibits works by Fukushima-related artists such as Chusaku Oyama and Tadashi Yoshii, as well as works by Kiyoshi Saito, an internationally renowned printmaker. The museum also houses works by Shoji Sekine, Ryusei Kishida, Andrew Wyeth, Ben Shahn, and John Sloan.
The museum and prefectural library are set against the backdrop of Mount Nobuo, and the panorama creates a quiet and serene environment befitting a cultural institution.
The museum’s collection focuses on Japanese and Western-style paintings from the Taisho period (1912-1926) and American realistic paintings of the 20th century, with special emphasis on works by Andrew Wyeth, Shoji Sekine, Kiyoshi Saito, and others. The permanent exhibition room introduces these collections four times a year with changing exhibits, and the special exhibition room holds about five thematic exhibitions a year.
The museum is surrounded by spacious lawns and a garden with a stream running through it, providing a place of relaxation for the citizens. It is a space where visitors can enjoy not only viewing art, but also strolling and jogging in a variety of ways.
