Abukuma-do Cave

The beauty of nature’s formations created over 80 million years

The limestone caves were created by the metamorphism of limestone into crystalline limestone over a period of 80 million years.

Since long ago, limestone and marble mining has been active in the area, and stalactites of various shapes and sizes have developed along the 600-meter public tour route.

Stalactites that drop from the ceiling, stalagmites that accumulate like bamboo shoots from under the floor, stone pillars, and erosion marks made by groundwater can also be seen.

In “Takine Goten,” the largest hall in the cave, which is divided into three levels, visitors can view crystal curtains, boxwork, cave shields (flat stalactites in the shape of shield plates), cave corals, and other precious stalactites that can only be seen here up close.

The average temperature inside the cave is around 14℃. The total length of the cave is over 3,300 meters.
